Re: I love the earth tones

Good choice for an example Doc. That forest green is a green done right. Green is an odd color for me, I really like certain shades (forest, emerald) but really dislike others (OD, Jade). Earth tones I think are a good compromise between inoffensive but boring (black and grey) and brightly colored b...

Re: Who Wants a High Carbon Native?

I have no interest in Low-Alloy steels. I think they are far inferior to high alloy non-stainless in all respects except for forging. To be honest, I'd much rather Spyderco do something in AEB-L or Nitro-V if you want something that will take a fine edge with good toughness. This mirrors my thought...

Re: Seki lockbacks vs. Golden lockbacks

Golden lockup feels far more solid to me. I've never gotten lock rock on a native but I have on seki knives. Nothing bad, but noticable.

I've never noticed a big difference in spring tension.

Re: 2 brand new Native 5 LW problems

My teal native lw had a slight rattle out of the box. It ended up just being a loose screw (scale screw closest the lockbar). Added a bit of loctite and it's good. It didn't look like any was applied at the factory.

Re: Lightest Weight Spydercos...?

Many good choices above. The native 5 frn is another good choice at 2.5oz and is available in s110v that will hold an edge almost forever. 3 in blade with 2.5in of edge, great ergos and the bulletproof golden back lock.

I'll ignore the blue butterfly logoed elephant in the room. :D

Re: Would s110v family sale better w/o Blurple?

Yeah, It's the S110v more than the scales keeping me from buying. Totally understand that some folks don't like blurple though. I really don't like burnt orange. Looks like a cross between pumpkin and baby poop.

I'm really surprised at the dearth of user info on this steel. I haven't been actively looking in other places, but I expected more discussion/testing threads on this board.

Wake me when a native or manix gets here. :D

Ukpk mentioned upthread would be cool too.

Judging by the market? 4-5mm. Going by performance, common use and common sense? 2-2.5mm.

I completely agree with BLUETYPEII. Loctite stick is more convenient than liquid. Less mess. Less waste.

Re: Native 6: expectations thread

I would love thinner stock. It's a smallish, linerless knife, 2.5mm would be more than adequate for any use i put it to.

More rounded edges could be nice, though the ergos are already great for me.

Re: Shaman: Primal instincts?

It's a great knife as is, but a Shaman with thinner stock would be awesome. I'd like to see a thin stock option on a lot of golden models.

Seems like you like larger knives. Have you tried the native chief? If the base s30v/g10 doesn't interest you, the upcoming s90v carbon fiber Sprint might.

Re: FRN/Lightweights: I just can’t get into them

I thought frn/lw models felt a little cheaper at first, but the more I've used them, the more impressed I've been with how did and durable they are. I like other materials too. Micarta, G10 and carbon fiber are nice, but I own more frn than any of those. Metal handles on the other hand... I'm not a ...

Re: What happened to the Boye Dent?

I guess it's due to a combination of hand size/shape and the way I grip a knife, but I've never had an issue with accidentally opening a back lock. So I'm indifferent to the dent. It has been mentioned that a dent could always be added, but that is not the case on all knives. The native's back lock ...

Re: 100% of people agree on this one thing!

Color preference is always subjective, but the dictionary does a great job of summarizing my feelings on olive drab.

Drab:
adjective
1. lacking brightness or interest; drearily dull.

I do agree that a K390 manix would be great though.

Re: NEW: MGE Wholesale Teal Native5 Exclusive

If I didn't already have the Cutlery Shoppe s90v Native LW I'd be all over this. Still very tempting. I came really close to pulling the trigger on the cutlery shop version, but I just couldn't get over the orange. I'm glad I passed. Teal isn't my favorite color, but it's far easier on my eyes and ...

I'm sorry I'm afraid there's only one solution here. Gotta divorce this guy and start over.
Sad but true. You had a good run.

Thanks Evil D, for the coffee in my sinuses.

Edit to add, a UKPK is a great smallish knife and light weight if a slip joint would work.
