Re: Tanto blades
It was the usual Seki stuff. Too expensive, didn't get updated with PB washers or bearings, Finish or grind was uneven. Letters in the Spyderco etch weren't evenly spaced out. PVD instead of DLC. Tip grind is wrong. Usual stuff. [/quote] Every one I’ve seen, has a messed up grind. Real wide bevel at...

Tanto blades
Does Spyderco only make tanto blades in limited runs for “Distributor Exclusives”? I want a black one. Are they all DLC, or are there any TCN? Black Cruwear or Magnacut would be nice. Maybe black micarta scales, but I’m not sure about that.

Re: My first Spyderco knife
Nice! :smlling-eyes If I was in the market for another PM2 (have the "base" S30V one, currently lend to a friend) yours would be the version I´d pick! It was recommended by someone I highly respect, who has an incredible amount of experience with knives and sharpening. I’m so glad I got i...

My first Spyderco knife
I just got a PM2 CruCarta. I am amazed at the quality and beauty, right out of the box. The action is buttery smooth. What really surprised me was the edge. It looks beautiful, and it’s shaving sharp. It’s an amazing value, and the perfect edc for me.

Re: Making a burr
I recommend using a shapie to see what is going on. If it's a real user I would do a burr to make sure you hit the apex. You use 30 or 40 degrees? As the diamonds are not super aggressive I would do more strokes to speed things up a bit. The sharpie is what showed what a mess the factory edge was. ...

Making a burr
I’m trying to tidy up the edge on an s30v blade, using the sm cbn rods. There’s a rough and uneven factory grind. It’s looking better. My rookie question of the day is: Should I work one side of the bevel until I find a burr, or just do 4-5 passes on each side until the ugly factory grind marks are ...

Re: Just the brown SM flats
Regarding the post above yours: He is talking about actually reprofiling the knife to 30 incl. starting from a less acute angle, or at least get rid of the factory grind, and when your´re there, set a microbevel at 40 degress incl. In that scenario using the brown / med rods for reprofiling would n...

Re: Just the brown SM flats
Regarding the post above, would it be bad, or a waste of time, to use the med rods at 30 degrees and then go to 40?

Re: CBN vs Daimond SM rods?
Diamond or CBN and UF are accessories, if you have a need for them. I'm sure the life of the stones, depends on how often and how you use them. They are easy to clean though.

Re: CBN vs Daimond SM rods?
Guys, if I buy the standard Sharpmaker set, do I need additional rods to take to get the knife to sharp? I mean those CBN/diamonds and ultra fine. Also, is the honing board with compounds needed additional to previous? I need to get a good sharpener, as I have 30+ folders in different steels and on...

CBN vs Daimond SM rods?
I have two S30V blades I use every day. Occasionally they need more than just touching up. Which rods are better as an upgrade.
Thanks, and my apology if this is an old subject.

Re: Blade tip repair
Thanks sir. I’m sure it will. I started on it last night. It’s almost “there”. I want near perfection of course. I love the SM. It’s saved me a lot of money and produced the sharpest edges I’ve ever seen in person.

Blade tip repair
I bought a second hand multitool online. The tip of the s30v blade is dull. It’s not real obvious visually but it is very dull. I wonder if it’s worth trying my sharpmaker, or a flat stone? I don’t have much experience re-profiling. Any advice? I’ll probably order a new blade if I can find one. I gu...

Re: Just the brown SM flats
I had pretty good results using Worksharp guided systems, but the SM is so much easier and faster to use and this latest use of the SM really opened my eyes. Take a good 30 deg blade and ten min on SM med rods at 40 deg, and it's incredibly sharp; scary sharp. I believe in micro-bevels and in the SM...

Re: Just the brown SM flats
Thank you all for explaining this. It seems like common sense, but in fact, it is just starting to sink in. I'm sure this has been discussed in other threads, but some things are valuable enough that they bear repeating. This is an awesome forum.
