Re: M390 CTS-204P 20CV :) Hype Steel

So back to the original topic.... soft M390. Dave Warren of Tuya Knives is getting some positive attention today on Instagram. His company had been selling M390 advertised at 59-61. His company saw JcoolG19's HRC test numbers of their knives at 57 hrc and he called the factory in China and had them...

Re: M390 CTS-204P 20CV :) Hype Steel

I almost bought one of those Lionsteel traditionals. I want to believe that Lionsteel just botched that one. I really, really hope they didn’t target 51 HRC on purpose. They are nice little knives! I don't think they are all that bad. I think they are probably having some QC issues. They can turn t...

Re: M390 CTS-204P 20CV :) Hype Steel

Do you think it possible to test CTS-204P, M390 and 20CV all in the same model? I can’t get over the difference and similarities. M390 being identical in use to CTS 204P But 20CV coming out so much sharper and I am talking fresh from the factory blades not any errors introduced by sharpening. Anoth...

Thanks for the info and the pictures Your welcome. Any questions, please ask. I try to be as transparent as I can. Your tag.. I have to agree with you. Sal and co. make this way more interesting! Nobody does what they do in so many varieties, and they do a pretty good job with them, too. Of the now...

Re: M390 CTS-204P 20CV :) Hype Steel

Rockwell testing is not a hard thing to figure out. There are some basic things you have to remember, but it's a fairly easy process. The small anvil or pin is a pedestal anvil or small are anvil. Most knives give you enough room to get a good supporting surface. The Lionsteel knives, like the Shuff...

Re: HRC Database

WOW. Awesome :D Thank you, I'll update the list when i have a minute. Could you tell me more about the zdp delica with the trouble holding an edge that showed zinc? Which zdp measurement was it? Or was it all of the delica zdp measurements? Also the rex45 para3 @64.7 which chart was it wrong on? Th...

Re: HRC Database

Is there any reliable way to test a cladded steel like hap40/sus410? I think the only option for that is to grind through the cladding. With great care, there's likely enough room around a Spydie hole and the kick/ricasso to do that without structurally compromising the blade. Exactly! No real way ...

Re: HRC Database

Thank you very much! Two people I would definitely add would be Kenny (InThePocket), he has been a big contributor and driving force, and Roman (KKnives Switzerland), he's kinda like a European TripleB, but smaller and talks funny. We call him Frenchy! I can't believe I forgot two guys! JackFarmBoy ...

Re: HRC Database

I'll round up the Spyderco data this week. We're trying to work out something to get all the info centralized. The spreadsheet is run by David (BladeBanter on YouTube), and it is just for knives that have had Rockwell and PMI testing done. It is being updated now. We have had a lot of tests not get ...

Re: HRC Database

Thanks Shawn! It's been a lot of fun, and I'm just fortunate to be able to do it. I've been lucky to get to know some great people along the way, and am honored with the trust they have given me. It isn't easy for many to send of a chunk of their cherished knives off to a complete stranger. BTW, I a...

Re: HRC Database

Spyderco keeps the testing interesting. Btw, if you see a pic of a Wilson tester and it has that green and white calibration sticker on it, it's my testing. To date, I have tested about 250ish knives, maybe more. I lost count months ago. When I get a chance, I'll get a list of the Spyderco knives I'...

Re: Hard truths and observations

I didn't forego things to buy a knife, I did that because these things were not necessary for me to live. The point was I still had extra money. Today there are so many things to waste money on that life becomes expensive. Too many people that want to keep up with the Jones'. I didn't buy a Spyderc...

Re: Hard truths and observations

I remember living on $4.50/hr (not minimum wage either) and that was in the tech industry. Times change, but back then I didn't need an expensive smartphone or smart TV, brand new car or eat out anytime I wanted. I still invested in the stock plan and of course there was zero health care coverage. ...

Re: Hard truths and observations

Thank you for the names will find them. Do any of them ever show you or the equipment you use I would find that very interesting. Yes, I take a ton of pics and I send them the PMI results back with the knives. The equipment I use is a Wilson 4 JR that is calibrated every 60 days and serviced yearly...

Re: Hard truths and observations

Indeed. As Nick Shabazz mentioned in his blade steel talk, even premium materials can end up failing miserably in hands that lack proper equipment or/and skill. That's true. As long as we don't fall into the mindset that because it's foreign made, Chinese in particular, that they all have inferior ...

Where can one view your test results?
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... p=drivesdk

David, Blade Banter on YouTube, is gathering the test info and organizing it.
This is not complete but a work in progress. There is a lot more data coming.

I applaud you for doing it. every bit of truth-finding helps. I was just curious.

There is a reason I use Spydercos for a control when I can. Thank you for making that possible with so many steels!
