Re: Q Ball fix

I love the BBL implementation on the Viele Phoenix, but didn't like it on the Q-ball. I agree that the Q-ball is a great design that is hampered by the lock implementation. Functionally I prefer the CBBL of the Manix II. Aesthetically (visual and haptic), the steel BBL/ plunger assembly of the Phoen...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I find it entertaining to observe how my own tastes change over time. I used to prefer the Native 5 strongly over the Delica 4. Now I find them both to be equally excellent.

Re: Stretch 2 v Stretch 2 LW

Not to muddy the waters, but the LW Stretch 2 is not very "LW." It's about as heavy of a "LW" as I've owned. Nice knife, but not eligible for backpacking. Those liners weigh in. This is a problem with Spyderco nomenclature. The FRN knives with liners are not truly lightweight. I...

Re: Stretch 2 v Stretch 2 LW

I was just confused by the addition/non-addition of "lightweight" depending on where the description appeared (Spyderco/Knife Center), and the accompanying price difference, which was only a reflection of the 2024 price change. Oops, sorry for that. And thanks for helping out. No wonder t...

Welcome to the Forum.

As far as I know the only K390 Stretch 2 has a straight spine blade and is a LW with FRN handles.

Re: How many Spyderco Knives did you buy in 2023?

Ref. my previous post, where I may come off a little hard on myself, I should clarify there is very little regret concerning my 2023 acquisitions. Non really... it's just how the numbers keep adding up faster than I'm able to sell off that I don't like. Stretch 1, Z-cut, Endura TRL and S2XL I've us...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I came home from work and swapped the MagnaCut N5 Salt which i so often carry for work, for the Small Persian 2. Is that a Northwoods? Looks like a great knife. [img]https://i.imgur.com/VZZCIFV.jpg[/ Fixed blade Friday for me. Thanks, and nice LT Wright!. I've meant to try one for years, I just mos...

Re: A Different Bi-Directional FRN

Of the Spyderco FRN that I have used I like the Taichung pattern best. I find G. Sakai second best and Golden is the least preferred and snaggiest. I have not used the old volcano pattern, nor the fishscale, Jess Horn, smooth (e.g. Centofante, Roadie), small squares (UKPK, Squeak, SpyDK, Urban) and ...

Re: Strengthening scandi grinds

Adding a micro bevel or even a full-sized edge bevel will also strengthen the edge and will be fine for most work except wood carving. Wood carving is the main reason I choose a Scandinavian grind when I do, so that is not my approach. Vivi's suggestion is better if you want to use it for carving or...

My latest vintage purchase is this 2005 Schatt and Morgan Mountain Man.

I'm late to the party but that S&M Mountain Man is a phenomenal knife.
Thanks, Bolster!

For me the framelock is at it's best use on the SpydieChef.

I am mostly a mid lockback guy. YMMV.

Edited to add Non-Spyderco content-- not in the mail, but on the new end of things...

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing

Yes please to BBB HT protocols optimizing Sandvik steels for Spyderco. As of late 2022 its no longer called Sandvik anymore. They changed the name to Alleima https://www.alleima.com/en/products/strip-steel/strip-products/knife-steel/knife-steel-knowledge/ Whoa! Thanks Shawn. That's a bit surprising...
