Re: Looking to upgrade

Well I finally settled the issues I had with my micarta pm2. Rob at National Knives had me send back the bad pm2 I received. And I received another one exactly how I expected the first one to be. Very light blondish colored scales. Super easy to open and close. Drops shut with just a pinch and very ...

I really want this one, but I have now had 2 really bad QC problems with my last Spyderco purchases. I am going to hold off on anything new for a bit I think.
Same here. Got a really bad micarta pm2. Very disappointed because it was my first real made in US Spyderco.

Re: Looking to upgrade

Ha! I didn't think of it the way you put it, but you are absolutely right. There's no arguing that! I was referring to brands outside of Spyderco, where I would consider the PM2 you have as a mid grade. But yes, absolutely is and should feel like an upgrade to the Efficient. I really really like th...

Re: Looking to upgrade

Sounds like either be content with the budget knives like the first one you've had for years, or take that next step above and dabble into knives known for higher quality/tolerances/etc. Granted those are certainly more expensive, and if they don't meet your criteria...maybe time for a different ho...

Re: Looking to upgrade

I can understand what your saying. I don’t think I’m trying to take my frustrations out on anyone here. I know I don’t want to be doing such a thing. But my hesitation with this knife was mostly on the color. Not the fit and finish. I assumed that I didn’t need to worry about that. That Spyderco had...

Re: Looking to upgrade

National Knives just reached out and basically said what most of you are saying. That I’m being too picky. I disagree. But they said they will either exchange it or refund it.I haven’t decided yet.

Re: Looking to upgrade

You can't go trashing National Knives. They have a very good reputation around here. I highly doubt they purposely selected a knife with defects and then sold it at the sale price. I'm sure what that means is to call them if you want them to take a glance over of a knife out of the box before shipp...

Re: Looking to upgrade

Last thing I want to do is take apart a knife I just paid that kinda of money for and have to tinker with it. I went with a vendor that was recommended in the earlier posts. National Knives. Which was $20 less than everyone else selling this pm2. Now I know why. Going back to their website and readi...

E82FE230-9C1A-4B3F-990F-78CA79F69C32.jpeg Ok so I got my pm2 Micarta in the mail today and wanted to share my thoughts AND concerns. When I opened the box I was initially pleased although a little surprised it was darker than I thought. Everyone says it looks lighter in person almost blonde color. ...

Well I did it. I ordered the pm2 Cruwear Micarta this morning. We’ll see what happens.
Thank you all for the excellent advice and personal options. Definitely well appreciated.

Re: Looking to upgrade

If the micarta pm2 ends up looking like the dark brown in a year then that’s not gonna work for me. I might just get an all black pm2 instead. So you can always just wash the micarta, or give it a very light sanding. Easy-peasy fix. That said, half the attraction of Micarta is that it changes over ...

That looks nice but I’m wondering what it’s gonna look like long term. I heard it takes on a lot more darker brown with use. I kinda like the look of the lighter linen color. I'm thinking you'll prefer the worn in look... https://i.postimg.cc/9XTZ4VFf/20210221-212752.jpg Is that before and after? I...

My thoughts are that if you're thinking of a Micarta/Cruwear Paramilitary 2, go for it! https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-jmmMSnf/0/L/i-jmmMSnf-L.jpg That looks nice but I’m wondering what it’s gonna look like long term. Re: Looking to upgrade

What are you sharpening with? A Lansky multi sharpener. I’m terrible at sharpening anything. I’d like to think that with the cru wear I wouldn’t have to do it much. That's a dangerous mindset to slip into. The ugly secret about high edge retention steels is they're also the more challenging to shar...
