Re: Have you found the one?

Either the Native 5 or the Shaman. Realistically it’s the N5 because I don’t need the extra size and heft of the Shaman I just like it. It took me a while to come to this conclusion but I’ve realized it’s really the only knife I’d ever need... I just have a hard time admitting I’ve found a perfect k...

Re: St Nicks Knives Exclusive 4V Shaman - Available 9/19/19

LOL wow I watched the sale just out of curiosity and at 8pm EST the sale started, continuously refreshed my page and at 8:01 they were gone... lasted just over a minute if you were clocking with a stopwatch... somewhere around 75 seconds

Re: St Nicks Knives Exclusive 4V Shaman - Available 9/19/19

Such a beautiful knife, too bad the quantity is that low because they’ll be gone before most of us even had a chance... wasn’t it like 3 minutes on the Lil native?

What would folding pocket knives look like if Sal never started Spyderco?

Hey guys, after watching the latest video on the Spyderco YouTube channel where they show how pocket clips came to be (which was a Spyderco invention) it made me think this exact question... what would folding knives be today if Sal never got into making knives? Bit of a speculative question because...

Re: S30v

Wouldn't say I love S30V but I really like it and don't mind at all that they use it frequently in their "base model" for knives. Almost always if I really like a model I will buy the classic S30V/black G10 variant to use hard. Not that I don't have a problem using a sprint run but not eve...

Re: Upcoming Shaman Exclusives??

I am guessing that within the next couple of years we will see so many different Shaman 'Exclusives' that most people will be tired of it. Kinda like the 800 runs of the Para 3. I wonder, does the Shaman have enough traction to warrant that many sprints? I really hope the knife is tied with their o...

Re: What makes S90V so special?

Love s90v. For my use it's just as corrosion resistant as as M390 (Larrin's data confirm this), but easier to sharpen on ~600-800 wetstones (burr?). Also, I've had Spyderco's s110v and m390 chip, but s90v not yet. I do suspect Spyderco runs s90v a little softer than m390 (60 vs 62 HRC?). How do you...

Re: What makes S90V so special?

I have never found s90v chippy at 26-30 inclusive. I've also not found s110v chippy at 22-24 inclusive. I didn't own any s90v knives long enough to really push the sharpening angle. But it cut 4-5 inch thick rope saturated in silt, mud, and grit dredged up from Jacksonville and Charleston Harbors a...

Re: What makes S90V so special?

Well that sounds very exciting when you put it that way but I like to speculate that back in the late 1990's when they made it they decided on having a better balance of attributes for industrial wear and cutting needs not fancy pocket knives directly. So they weren't seeing back than what makes yo...

On page 6 of the S90V Shaman Is Out thread, Sal says: “I really like S90V”. That also makes S90V special...
He also seems to be a big fan of CF... the man has good taste thats for sure!

Re: What makes S90V so special?

Well, to my knowledge S90V is a "prototypical" high-carbide particle steel, and at this point there may not be much novelty in that class of metals, but it's still very hard and quite corrosion resistant. I only own one knife with an S90V blade but based on the freakishly long time it hol...

Re: What makes S90V so special?

I've had more burr issues with S90V than S110V, 90 just feels soft by comparison and I have an easier time getting sharp edges on 110. Otherwise I can't really tell the difference in day to day use. I've also rusted both. Interesting... did it rust through testing pushing the steels to their limit ...

Re: What makes S90V so special?

There are pluses minuses and trade offs to all steels. I was talking to someone not too long ago about why they preferred S90V to S110V. S110V has greater wear resistance than S90V but is not by coincidence harder to sharpen. They found S90V to be for them a better balance of wear resistance and ea...

What makes S90V so special?

This is a question I've wondered for some time now about S90V. We see it used in Spydercos high end knives such as the Paysan and they use it for their famous CF/S90V sprint runs which seems to be the most premium combo they offer through sprints. They're not the only ones either, Benchmade offer so...

Re: Upcoming Shaman Exclusives??

Dont tell me they're releasing a red g10/dlc 4v shaman... that'll bankrupt me trying to get it here in Canada but it'll be such a sweet knife I don't know if I can resist.

But truly, I'm glad you got sorted out, and with a nice perfect Maxamet PM2! I really do think we are dealing with a thoroughly decent organization. Thank you! Also I agree, Spyderco is among the best in the business. This whole situation didn't make me doubt them as a company if anything it made m...

Another theory why it took so long was maybe there were none in stock and the wait was for more to be made?
I didn't think about this but theres actually a really good chance you're right on the money here... that'd make the most sense actually!
