Re: Shaman Z-Wear news?
Nobody outside of the Spyderco factory and management team know when any knife will start shipping. Even the Spyderco Factory Outlet store employees don’t know. https://res.cloudinary.com/teepublic/image/private/s--NzCDQrsz--/t_Resized%20Artwork/c_fit,g_north_west,h_1054,w_1054/co_ffffff,e_outline:...

Re: Shaman Set Up
If you want it to feel as smooth as possible during the "break in period" you can put some good light oil on the pivot. Personally, I just oil and use, and basically never adjust the pivot at all. Ditto. I have several that fall closed. Others that don't. I lube the pivot as a matter of c...

I (seem to) enjoy collecting and using sharpening gear as much as the knives.

The Police 4 has a longer blade. That's another great pattern.

Re: Spyderco Face Mask
Hi Julia, 10 years too late now. I try to get things going about 10 years ahead so when the time comes, we're already established and know what we're doing. The UKPK is such an example. We designed and built the knife when the UK changed their laws. Sales were slow initially, but now our Slipits ha...

Re: He-Man Military Lover's Club - Enlist Here
Right now I like alternating the Shaman and Military as one of my daily EDCs. One a bit more robust, the other a bit more of a slicer. Though my Shaman ain't no slouch there. Push cuts telephone paper which is good enough for me.

Re: He-Man Military Lover's Club - Enlist Here
Well, if Sal is reading this, I hope he chimes in with what he knows about the difference between the Rockwell hardness of Spyderco's recent offerings in Cru-Wear and 4V. Clearly, differences in heat treat and edge geometry will make for different results. Hopefully, we can at least get some info we...

Re: Z-max vs. Z-wear
From what I hear, Z-Wear is akin to CPM Cru-Wear. (Others will be along with much greater insight.)

Re: Heat treat problem?
I've been around long enough to not lose sleep over it. It's a fun mental exercise but in the, (at least my), real world, they all tend to do what they're supposed to do. Some are tougher, some require less trips to the hones...which is nice.

Re: Heat treat problem?
In Larrin and Shawn's testing, 4V @ 63 Rc out cut 4V @ 61 Rc by 12mm of media...only a 2.25% difference in performance for those two points in Rockwell hardness.

Re: Heat treat problem?
I've no doubt that Spyderco changes specs and methodologies as they go. Fortunately, their customer base, plus the information gleaned in the factories and the field are a huge, living laboratory which amasses data and knowledge on a continuous basis. I'd expect nothing less than for them to make ch...

Re: He-Man Military Lover's Club - Enlist Here
I have really been curious about the differences between the two. 3V seems a lot more common in production but 4V has all of the current love. I wonder what the discernible differences could be? 3V appears to be the tougher steel but lags 4V in edge holding. Take a look at this link: https://docs.g...

Re: He-Man Military Lover's Club - Enlist Here
Since I think the Military should be a tough knife, and not just one capable of slicing, I've leaned toward hoping for 3V, 4V, or Cru-Wear to carry the day. Given the results of Larrin and Shawn's testing, I think Cru-Wear may be the best choice for the combination of toughness, edge holding and cor...
