Trying something new and I'm really happy with how these turned out. This is fresh off the cnc with no finish. I need to figure out a tweak for the mounting pin holes since they came out slightly tapered but I can hardly wait to make a few more sets.

Thanks guys, im super happy with how these turned out.

I'm definitely planning on making more. They take about 8 hours per set to mill at this detail and I still need to dial in the mounting hardware a bit though.

The 0.208 button head 4-40 screws that I use for my resin scales don't bite quite the same on the wood. I would love to find a 4-40 X 3/16" long stainless screw with a slightly larger taper head, but I'm not sure they exist

I'm sure I can figure something else out if I can't find different screws. (Milling slightly smaller or taper the top or something) It will just take a bit of time to dial it in.

Did a smooth set today that really show off the Birdseye in the maple. About 15 minutes of light sanding aff the cnc and a quick coat of BLO and ready to go.

Strong work! Can we see a photo of your CNC machine?? Thanks.

Love everything about this! Beautiful. Would love to see that pattern cut into micarta.

I picked up a little Genmitsu 3018 ProVer V2. I waffled back and forth for quite a while on spending 10X as much for a larger and nicer machine but decided to get this to learn on. So far I am very impressed and look forward to expanding to a bigger machine for other stuff in the future.

I am definitely going to be cutting some other materials soon! Micarta, carbon fiber, stabilized and dyed burls, turboglow, etc.

I'm just learning and dialing it all in on basic wood first. Although I am extremely happy with my results so far.

Yea, I have some even better Birdseye to work with but wanted to practice a bit before using the premium stuff.

I made up some walnut scales today using the same technique. I love the feel of lightly oiled walnut as a handle.

Mahogany Mule Scales too.

When I first started these ones I thought, "This Mahogany Is beautiful, why don't more people make Scales with it?"

Half way through I thought, "Man, this stuff is a pain to work with, tearout, fuzzing, hard on tools. No wonder no one makes scales out of it."

Then when I was done I thought, "Wow, this stuff looks incredible! Why don't more people make scales out of it?"

(BTW , they still need another coat of oil so no screws in the binding posts in the pics)
