Nearly-Forgotten TV Shows, Themes, and Ads

Land of the Giants, Promo Film (1967)
These shows (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants) were all great. They've all been mentioned in this thread, but I liked this promo film.

Chicago - Old Days (1975)
OK, this isn't a TV show, an ad, or even a movie. But this song captured the spirit of nostalgia. It's a '70s song about growing up in the 1950s. And this song has never been forgotten.
https://youtu.be/kRTMWzVoT_U?si=ZGkxCBYklKdT7suV
It's interesting that cultural nostalgia ran in 20-year cycles, and seemed to have begun in the early 1970s, with many nostalgic for the 1950s. Then in the '80s, the nostalgia shifted to the 1960s. In the '90s, it shifted to the 1970s. And in the 2000s, it shifted to the '80s. I suppose in the 2010s, it focused on the '90s.
These 20-year cycles coincided with the kids/teens of a particular decade growing into their 30s, coming into positions of power or influence in the entertainment industry, and pushing for shows, movies, etc., about their childhood eras in TV and movies.
I suppose people my age would have been nostalgic for the 1970s.

It's not just shows and songs. The Flip Wilson Show (1970 - 1974)
I remember we sometimes watched this around 1972 and '73, when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. IIRC, it aired on Thursday nights(?).
TV variety shows were a big thing until the mid-'70s or so. For the most part, I could take them or leave them, though The Carol Burnett Show had some hilarious segments.
The thing I most remembered about Flip Wilson was the show's theme music, his name spelled with arrows, a couple of his jokes, and that he cross-dressed as the character "Geraldine."
I remembered one show, I'm not certain if it was The Flip Wilson Show or The Sonny & Cher Show, where a guest (IIRC, Nancy Walker) sang a slow, somber song called "Hit Hitler," which I thought was weird.

Gunsmoke
I'm pretty sure this show was mentioned earlier in the thread. My dad loved western movies and TV series. As a kid, I was never the biggest fan of western TV shows; however, Gunsmoke was definitely my favorite. Its original run lasted from 1955 - 1975. What set it apart for me were the main characters. They all had their own interesting and unique personality quirks and character development, something that most current TV series lack.

Jim,
MOST Shows today lack a lot of things.
One thing I really don't like is the soap opera type plots replacing the old style show episodes that could stand on their own.

Well, Jim, I certainly can't argue with you there. But if I made a comprehensive list of all the things lacking in today's TV series, it would take us down a whole other rabbit hole...
TBH, I pretty much stopped watching dramatic TV series altogether a couple/few years ago. And even then, I was barely watching any dramatic TV series.
Nowadays, I occasionally watch old shows on TV Land, and non-news, nonfiction shows.

OK, this is not a nearly-forgotten TV show, theme, or ad, but the subject of Dwayne Johnson's over-exposure in Hollywood has been brought up in this thread.
And even though the 1980 Popeye movie starring Robin Williams wasn't a great movie, he was the only actor who could have played a live-action Popeye. Certainly not Dwayne Johnson.

Jim,
Yes, it is. But sadly, as you've indicated, it's not a kind of joke, but a kind of joke.
I suppose next, Dwayne Johnson will star in the Braveheart remake as William Wallace. Then he'll play Mr. Lee (Bruce Lee's character) in the Enter the Dragon remake. Then he'll star as Bugs Bunny in the live action Looney Tunes movie. What's next? Oh yeah, don't forget, he'll play Homer Simpson in the live action Simpsons movie. I'm exaggerating, of course. Or am I?
Hollyweird can't come up with anything original, so they are perfectly happy to reach back and ruin everything that came before.

It's really pathetic if you think about it.
And he will play Bruce Willis's role in all the Die Hard Remakes.
And then the Death Wish Remakes.

Then all of the Stat Trek remakes.

Fantastic Four (1967) YouTube-Friendly Marathon
These bring back memories. I literally hadn't seen these episodes since age 4 or 5 (in 1967 or 1968). I'll be turning 61 in a couple of months.
My favorite episode was the one about Galactus (which is not included in this marathon), but I remember my second-favorite as being the episode about Blastaar (which starts at around 1:00:50).
