Apparently, the weight o the large blade was the culprit when flicked open, hard to unlock. Also some minor issues with other parts. R&D is currently refining the lock design (CQI) with plans to use it in a smaller model.

I would love to see that lock on something like a Lil’ Native or Dragonfly!

Not my cup of tea but sounds fitting for obvious reasons. I could see that having much wider appeal than the Tatanka.

According to Sal, the Power-Lock was invented by Kimiuki Sakai and can only be made in Japan.

🤞🏻 a ‘smaller model’ refers to a 4.8inch bladed Police variant (‘Riot Police’?) with 4mm blade stock in Cruwear 🤤

The Dragonfly sounds like a great model to use the Power-Lock on! The one with liners and green G-10 handle scales. It would be a perfect model for the Power lock!

I regret selling the Tatanka! Would be cool to get another model with the Power Lock.

While I love my spyderco, they are a bit small. The only ones I kept were 3+ inch blades. Tuff, Ayoob, Caribbean, Siren, manix 2xl, swayback, Vallotton sub hilt, native chief, Autonomy 2, Chinook 3, and small ones native 5, and P Kal.
I spend as much on cold steel for 4 inch plus folders.
Sal I really prefer spyderco, just not anymore sub 4 inch blades.
Instead of shortening the blade on the Tatanka why not give it a high hollow grind, and maybe blood groves like the tuff.
I can't be the only one that wishes spyderco to make large folders. Think Mayhem sized knife made by spyderco. I'll take 2. :bug-red-white :bug-red-white :bug-red-white :smiling-heart-eyes :smiling-heart-eyes

Anyone else think the Tatanka and Stretch XL look very similar?
Well, I finally managed to track down my Stretch2 XL, so here they are side by side.

Personally, I don't think they look that similar.

Tatanka definitely has smoother lines and less belly in handle . The blade in my opinion is beautiful. . The comparison shot is eye opening . MG2

Yeah the Stretch 2 XL is no little knife - and the T dwarfs it (boy nice blade shape).

I think my Tatanka was the first Spydie midlock without blade play. I loved the Powerlock for that especially, and the Tatanka for a whole lot more.

But after several years, I sold it chiefly because of how the choil of its heavy blade felt on my index finger when closing.

It felt just too foreign to the muscle memory I had stored up from closing my other Spydie midlocks with their lighter blades. Moreover, lighter Spydie midlocks from Taichung and Golden had become fantastic.

But, the Powerlock is different, and wanting not to be without one, I now have a Chinook4 and am happy as a clam.

Don´t know if in this thread or elsewhere, but there was talk of a Millie 2 with a powerlock (Vivi - ?) - too late for that one I guess, would have been great imo (if it ever really was a thing, not sure about that).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

.....

Well, that´s eye opening indeed... ;)

And I guess such a large folder does need a really strong lock: The main area where I could potentially see that overly long handle (it has to be that long of course in a folder) coming in handy is light to medium chopping, where a lot of stress is put on the lock.
There might also be a few scenarios where the added reach comes in handy, otherwise the super long handle would rather be a con for me.

It was a Military 2 with a Stop Lock, not the power lock. The Power Lock is limited to production in Japan. A Golden made model with a Powerlock is not a possibility.

Thanks, Nick!

Your knowledge on Spyderco is honestly outstanding... and I confounded powerlock and stop lock indeed.... :confounded
