Re: What are you listening to?
OK I guess I am hopelessly stuck in the 1970s dealing with the subject of great music. But what other era has there been so many bands become household names as they did during that time period. Now the 1970s was not only great for many rock bands because there was also a lot of great folk artists during that time slot as well. Speaking about superstars like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Judy Collins ect, ect,.
I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard any of you speak about Loreena McKennitt. She is one of the very few modern artists that I like. Her music literally puts me in a really peaceful mode.
Again you guys from the UK have a lot to be proud of. The British bands ( especially those of the 60s & 70s) truly changed the landscape of music in a really big way.
And with Halloween coming up who could forget my old buddy "Warren Zevon" with his immortal "Werewolves Of London" or Lawyers Guns & Money from the 70s era. What other decade made that big of a difference in the music industry?

Jimmy Page & Elvis Presley  !!!! Holy Bubble-Gum Batman!!! Jimmy Page & Elvis Presley??? I just want to make sure I read that correctly. Man that's about like mixing water and motor oil  That's almost as bad as mixing Luciano Pavroti with Johnny Cash  Or Gomer Pyle proposing marriage to Janis Joplin  I guess if I live long enough I'll eventually run into something even more weird than that

SiriusXM Liquid Metal for the day. Love when I'm working with guys that aren't offended by heavy music.

Re: What are you listening to?
I like several musical categories, but the vast majority of what I listen to ranges from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. A small few from the 90s. That's "my" music, what I heard when they were all still new. And I'm sure some others will disagree, but IMO it was the best era of popular music, especially the 60s and 70s. During the 70s in particular, there was less separation between the popular music categories. The same radio stations would play hard rock/glam rock, soft rock, folk, R&B, funk, disco (some of which was actually good, believe it or not), and others. Even some country/western songs crossed over. There was such a variety, with unique styles and sounds. It's what I still listen to now, though it's getting harder to find stations that still play 60s and 70s music, as most of the 'oldies' stations now focus almost purely on the 80s.
I'm 100% certain that nobody here has ever heard of him, but I also like the late '70s instrumental Taiwanese folk music of composer Li Tai-Hsiang.

I ran across SMOKO a few months ago and really enjoyed it. The song came up after I learned about the Cosmic Psychos. https://youtu.be/Q954LxEzyY8
I cannot figure out the embedding and will not try any more.

I was going to embed it for you but, based on the title, I don't think it's appropriate here. I'm no prude but this is supposed to be a family friendly forum.gac wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 10:05 pmI ran across SMOKO a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Re: What are you listening to?
What has blown me away is how many great rock and folk groups I've discovered over the years that are hugely popular in England or Europe in general but yet never really gained huge popularity here in the USA. Great British groups like Roxy Music, Budgie, SteelEye Span, Fairport Convention along with Bryan Ferry, Fripp & Eno and Ian Hunter. They all had huge popularity across the pond but no so much here in the USA.
Also one of my very favorite folk artists from Canada >> I'm speaking of Loreena McKennitt never really gained the fanfare here in the US that she did in her homeland  ?
Oh by the way I made a discovery   I found out that our great Brother "BLOKE" and Angus Young of ACDC are first cousins  :D I should have known that a long time back because they sure look a lot alike and dress a lot alike as well>> not to mention being fellow countrymen  Yeah Brother "BLOKE" and Angus Young :D a tag team extraordinaire  :D

Re: What are you listening to?
The music i listen to gets softer the older i get. I still listen to my old favorites led Zeppelin, jethro tull, pink floyd, genesis(pre 80s), ac/dc and so on.
But i rarely listen the more heavy bands i used to love, like sepultura, pantera, Metallica, Iron Maiden, helloween and the likes.
