It is an aluminum-zirconium-titanium-oxide material with some other elements mixed in. A sapphire like thing. Some claim it is harder than diamond, others that it is just denser.

Re: Make knives from this! Carmeltazite
Tells you why no-one will be making knives from this- it's rare (so massively expensive), only found in small sizes (so not going to be blade stock) and actually isn't harder than sapphire."The theoretical density (calculated from the crystal structure) is 4.12 g/cm3, higher than a diamond with 3.52 g/cm3. However, this doesn't translate, as erroneously reported by some media, in a higher hardness"
"The largest stone discovered so far is 0.25 oz"
Theoretical density is always a bad sign- that tells you there isn't a big enough non-porous lump to drop it into water to do a standard gravimetric density test
Does look pretty though. :)
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.
