Efficient has shipped
Efficient has shipped
The supplier e-mailed me that the Efficient I pre-ordered has shipped. I must say this is the first pre order I've placed. This was an easy choice, just the right size, pleasant shape, liner lock, decent steel that is easy to sharpen. This should be a fun knife. :)
I would have gotten a Para 3, but I have quite enough S30V knives.

I ordered one today :)
Re: Efficient has shipped
Looking forward to hearing/reading what you both think of it.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: Efficient has shipped
It looks great. I'm hoping its handle is a little thinner than the Native5, but the odds are low.

Re: Efficient has shipped
Mine just arrived yesterday. Really like this one - like a budget Native 5 g10 with better ergos and liner lock. There are barrel standoffs inside the backspacer, so I removed that for weight loss. With backspacer the Efficient feels a lot like the N5 g10, which always felt kinda brickish to me in pocket - removing it really improves the weight and ease of carry. Also in the process of contouring the scales a bit to smooth out the ergos even more, and give it a slimmer feel in hand.
- SG88 and Abbazabba: handle (stock) thickness feels really similar to the n5 g10. maybe even a hair thicker. I agree that a slimmer feel will improve the ergos. I'll post pics once I'm done w/ that process.

Re: Efficient has shipped
I got mine yesterday. So far I think it's a great knife. A little heavy (4.1 oz) but it is still light enough to not worry about it. I like the G10 better than the G10 that has been on the Tenacious. I also like that there are T9 Torx screws throughout with T6 for the clip.
The only problem I have, is I wanted to take a black Para 2 clip and put it on the Efficient and I cannot. The holes are not big enough. The T6 Torx screws used to hold the clip on the Efficient are larger. I would have to drill out the holes just to use a clip. I also have a Gayle Bradley 1 clip, and they are too big to go through that clip too.

Thanks for letting us know that there are barrel spacers inside the backspacer. I'm going to remove it as well.DigDug72 wrote:Mine just arrived yesterday. Re: Efficient has shipped
I'm looking forward to this one. Would it be possible to see a comparison picture next to a Native5?

I didn't realize until recently that you are the designer of the Rhino. That thing looks awesome. I will be getting one.

Re: Efficient has shipped
This one caught my attention as well.
Are the liners solid, non-skeletonized?
Anyone who has removed this spacer happen to still have it to give a quick weight measurement in grams? Just curious.

Re: Efficient has shipped
Does anyone know if this knife is from a different chinese factory than the tenacious?
Re: Efficient has shipped
Skeletonized liners, and the backspacer weighs 6.3g on my sketchy, very inaccurate scale.SpeedHoles wrote:

Re: Efficient has shipped
Really liking the Efficient after using it lightly in the last day.
- Great slicer - blade is thicker than a Delica, but a hair thinner than a Sage, and slices apples cleanly.
- The curve of the handle butt plus mellow finger choil really makes the knife lock into my hand.
- Feels surprisingly smooth and well constructed, and is breaking in quickly.
- It's on a combo set of washers - one pb, the other nylon. They both seem to be the same thickness, so maybe this is to make it easier to dial in the sweet spot on the pivot?
- nice strong detent, but flicks open readily
- Really digging the lowish tip, and gradual curve of the belly too - the tip is down and ready to initiate a cut, and the belly is nice and gradual, making cutting feel nice and controlled, with a surprising amount of cutting surface fit in there.
- Great budget edc for sure, but goes beyond that for me. After rounding the handles a little this is definitely one of my favorite spydies ergos-wise.

Re: Efficient has shipped
Yep. I took the spacer out last night. The knife weighed 4.1 oz. out of the box. Without the spacer it weighs 3.7 oz.SpeedHoles wrote:This one caught my attention as well.

Oh yeah, and the liners are skeletonized. I took the entire thing apart last night. Very well made. I'll take it apart again and take pics if nobody beats me to it.
Good observations. I think you're right about the pivot washers. I bet having 1 nylon washer would allow enough give in the washer itself that there would be no play while the pivot is looser than it would have to be with 2 PB washers.DigDug72 wrote:Really liking the Efficient after using it lightly in the last day.

Re: Efficient has shipped
Great input.
Weight - Yes, 4.1oz is just within my max weight for carry. check!
Handle thickness - I may reduce the thickness by milling the INSIDE surface down a bit??? or use NEW G10 scales??? or not!
Clip - I usually replace factory's clip(except wire ones). I may make one of .032" titanium, shorter than the factory one. (don't like overly long clips)
Looking forward to it's arrival.
