Information about the Spydiewiki.com - project!

#1

Post by Fairlane »

Dear all,

It’s with great pleasure I bring you all the news about a Spyderco collector initiative called the Spydiewiki.
The Spydiewiki is first and foremost an attempt to collect all the information that we all have been trying to collect and share, to one single place on the internet.
It’s an initiative launched by the Spydiewiki- group, who, including myself consist of the following people:

Ted, Rob, Senate, 4 S Ter, Peter1960, UK Ken, Datan, Boxer93 and Edrose.

We’ve been fortunate enough to get the following people on board by special invitation already:
The Deacon, Tonydahose and The CoPilot.

This far we have managed to get a few articles more or less ready, like the C12- article:
http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C12_Civilian
But with a lot of other articles under way and hopefully a lot more after you all have had the chance to contribute!
We foresee a Wiki much like any other you would find on the ‘net, but with information about Spyderco knives only.

We have planned an initiative to link all the pic’s from Ted’s site: http://www.spydie.nl
To the correct article in the Spydiewiki and thus making a clickable easy reference for anybody who would need information about a Spyderco knife.

We have gotten the permissions we need from Spyderco of course, and we sincerely hope you all will join us in an attempt to make the Spydiewiki.com the ultimate source of Spyderco information on the web!

If you would like to contribute to the Spydiewiki.com, please follow the instructions on the main page! http://www.spydiewiki.com

This information will also be posted on Bladeforums.com and Messerforum.

Starting to look bloody excellent Fairlane,

As already mentioned to you elsewhere, I think this project has merits on many fronts. As a resource for Spyderco fans for one. And a more complete 'one-stop-shop for information and links to all things Spyderco is the ultimate goal.

I am honoured and glad that I can be of assistance to the project. A few more articles from me are pending and will submit it when they are nearly ready ;D ;)

Great initiative once again Henning, and thanks to Spyderco for allowing us to link, refer, and use resources from the Spyderco forums and website. Also thanks to all those who are contributing it makes a great difference.
Cheers

Thanks for all the nice feedback, everyone!

What is important is that if you feel you can contribute, please do!

The thing here is that it's almost impossible for one or a few to manage to get all this information, but if we all pull togheter... :)

Wow! That is excellent! Well done!

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to stop NKP from vandalizing the SpydieWiki? :)

You will have to be allowed edit- rights to the Wiki by either me or Rob.
This is done specifically to stop that sort of thing.
In addition we can roll back changes done and also ban IP- adresses.

So, all in all, i believe that there will be very few problems with people intending to do bad things.

I sincerely hope more people will ask to be added as users, though, as there's a LOT! of work before this is the Wiki we are after.

Wow! This is very cool and very nicely done! Thanks for putting together such a great idea!

So, in terms of contributions, does that include, say, describing personal means of sharpening a particular :spyder: where such information was not available on the Forum?

Anyway, I like what you all have done. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks again for all the grat feedback, and sorry about me taking some time getting back!

In terms of contribution, we are primarily looking to get as much information as possible on the different knives made by Spyderco. The Byrds included.

I don't see sharpening as part of the scope, that is taken care of elsewhere in great detail.

The idea is to collect information from Spyderco, different other websites and all the forums and present it in such a way that it's easy for someone looking for information to find all available informaiton about a particular knife. This also include information about the steel in that knife and the grind and so on.

Have a look at the C12- article and follow the links to see what other information would be interesting to get in there.

I've been to the site and find the concept exciting. I've been collecting knives for many years and recently began focusing on Spyderco's. The history and discussion of the variants will be very useful. I look forward to coming to the site often with my research on knives I have currently (160+) and will be collecting in the future. Really great project, thanks!
