Hi Golem,

Where did you hear about a VG-10 Lum Tanto? My most up to date info indicates that it will remain ATS-55 for 2002. While ATS-55 is discontinued, I think Spyderco has enough stocks remaining to leave a few knives ATS-55 for the next year at least. This includes the Lum Tanto, Cricket, etc. (as listed in the 2002 catalog).

I think Sal said that they were testing VG-10 lum tanto in one of his replys. He also mentioned about testing VG-10 Chinook.

Hi Golem,

I rememebred the bit about testing the Chinook -- and maybe even putting one of the test units up for grabs on a contest. I found the post you refered to:

Hi Golem. We have BG-42 on hand. Have plans for a few models for testing.

The Police and Lum folding Tanto will go to VG-10. The Chinook is using CPM-440V. We're currently testing the Chinook with VG-10, but there are no plans for a steel change at this time.

Based on this, the safe (and most likely) answer to your question would be that the VG-10 Lum tanto will only be in G-10 with a black blade (as the current model).

Well, Ti handle is much more sexy... G10 handle is more practical... I will definately get one no matter what kind of handle it has. But it will really be a great pitty if there is no Ti handle, I always like the feeling of "Full metal"s.

golem, the Ti handle is my preference too; however, I guess we're in the minority on this matter. Maybe if Seki has some left over Ti handles (overrun from the first production?) we could request a special order with the VG-10 blade?

Ahh...
Thanks toothed, your words do give me some tiny hope now.
Be careful, if there is only one Ti handle left, we might have a fight for that <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Steel changes in models do not conform to dates. They are the result of running our of the old steel before implementing the newer steel.

Spyderco owned ATS-55 so we had to make up a large amount of stel when we made it. The Lum folding Tanto, which is currently being made in ATS-55 will switch over when the ATS-55 is gone. This will occur some time in 2002, but we don't know exactly when. We listed the ATS-55 in the catalog because we cannot begin the year with the new steel.

hope that helps. The Titan handles are gone, so for now, G-10 is the way.
