Re: Usefulness of Sub-3 Inch Blades?

Tomorrow I'll use my Dragonfly on Pheasants as our Archery Club will host the annual Pheasant shoot :) ^+1 I'll add to my post of above that, back when I was hunting, if I had a sharp little knife like a Dragonfly or Delica, I wouldn't have hesitated to use that for cleaning ducks, geese, pheasant,...

Re: Usefulness of Sub-3 Inch Blades?

Providing we're considering only pocket/folding knives here, I have yet to really find a need for a blade longer than 3". Not saying 3"+ blades aren't useful, I just to find them necessary for the stuff I'm cutting with my pocket knife. That said I do use longer fixed blade knives regularl...

Re: First knife for new Marine

I'm not going to pretend to know what a Marine would need as far as cutlery goes, but a fixed blade seems like a better choice. Something that is built with full tang construction for strength. I'm not saying anything huge and heavy, just of robust build so it won't fail him in the field. The upcom...

Re: First knife for new Marine

Hi Sharp Guy, kudos to your son for wanting to serve his country. Do you know what MOS (job) he has signed up for? The other guys are correct, he won't be allowed to have it with him in boot camp, don't even let him take it there thinking he will be able to store it until graduation, it will be con...

Re: First knife for new Marine

Thank you all for the previous replies. I'm going to think on this for awhile yet and I might change my mind a couple times but at the moment I think the Native 5 LW is what I'm going with. Of course, if you really, really wanna "toughen him up" go with a pink ladybug...think Johnny Cash's...

Re: First knife for new Marine

My love for the PM2 aside, I would spend more time worrying about which handle design and lock design works best for your son because both knives will work excellent. Since you have both a Manix 2 and a PM2, come up with an excuse to sit down at the kitchen table and play with both models. Work in ...

Re: First knife for new Marine

After that long winded post here would be my recommended Spyderco's based on meeting the above requirements: - Military S30V DLC(callled the military for a reason, if I remember the story correctly Sal designed this knife after being asked what knife he would send his child off to military service ...

Re: First knife for new Marine

I doubt he will be allowed to have it in boot camp. Once he gets out and is assigned a permanent unit, then he can think of a knife. Unless he is deployed (hope not) any knife will have to be out of sight out of mind, more than likely. I think I would lean more towards a Native 5 unless you find he...

Re: First knife for new Marine

Hey Sharp Guy, I would definitely go with the pm2. I personally would get the digi-camo, but not because a marine needs a camo knife....I just like it. :D The PM2 with DLC/digi-camo would definitely have the cool factor. I'm just not sure how practical it would be. But then, to an 18 yr old Marine ...

First knife for new Marine

My 18 year old son is will graduate high school this spring and is already signed up for the Marines. I'm considering buying him his first "real" EDC knife but I'm undecided on what to buy him. He's had a SAK and a Leatherman multi-tool for a while now but, to the best of my knowledge, doe...

Re: Radioactive’s 2.5K Post GAW!

Awesome GAW!! I've learned a lot here since joining. The first thing that comes to mind for me is how friendly and helpful the Spyderco community is. I've felt welcomed from the start and appreciate that. There are some forums on the web that I refuse to be a part of due to their lack of common dece...

Re: Request for Sal and Eric

I can't stand a knife on a key chain. But I understand those who like it. Just not for me. Knives go in pockets in my world. Knife on a key chain isn't really my thing either. I tried having a small knife on my keys a long time ago and realized it wasn't convenient and just added bulk. I know some ...

Re: New generation PM2 Fake

If that is in fact a fake they're radiusing the transitions into the cut out for the lock release on the clip side scale much closer to the real one's now. Kind of hard to tell from your pics but the sides of the clip looks like they're finished pretty good too. Based on some of the other things you...

Re: Manix CBBL or Mid Back Lock?

At this point my thoughts are opposite of most of the responses here. I have 3 Spyderco knives with back locks and, while there are aspects of the lock I like, I find them awkward to close with one hand. Maybe I just haven't learned the secret yet. While the spring in the CBBL on the Manix 2 is very...

The only BM I have is 556 Mini Grip. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it. I have my eye on a Mini Stryker and Sequel too.

I'm currently reading the Game of Thrones series and have been for quite awhile (lot of reading lol). I'm a huge Dean Koontz fan and have read almost all his books. Just waiting to finish GOT and I'll Koontz' latest called Ashley Bell

No need for apologies. I think what you were trying say is pretty clear. You got a little bored with your Spydies and traded them for something that you thought would make you happier, only to realize that Spyderco is where you belong. If were in your shoes I'd do some horse trading or sell what you...

I wish Sal & gang were still going to the TX state fair to show their wares. I'd love the opportunity to meet them and tell them thanks!

Re: Flaring the Tang to Ease Over the Detent Ball

I use the ball/curb stop to help close the knife. I push the liner over with my thumb to unlock the knife, then I use my index finger on the back of the blade to slowly move it the until I feel it stop against the ball, then I give the back of the blade a light tap with my index finger and the blade...

Not sure what's going on but there should be no problem uploading pics from your S4 or S5 to your Windows 10 PC. I do it all the time with my S6 and I just helped my sister-in-law do it with her S4 the other night over the phone.
