at 40 degree , my military edge gets dull after cutting on those regular plastic cutting board for a day or 2, your UKPK might get dull in couple slices on the cutting board with that kind of an angle (<20?). Wow :D I've had a different experience. I've tested out thin edges (6-10 deg per side + mi...

Do you carry around another knife in case you DO run into something harder to cut? No. I usually have a SAK or LM Squirt on my keychain if it came down to it, but I've never encountered anything I've had to cut that the UKPK couldn't handle with it's last edge (~8 deg. per side or so). My usual EDC...

VIVI, Chips and dings can be taken out with a 90 degree angle cutting in the stone on a coarse diamond benchstone. About 20 passes should do on a XXC DMT... I would have left the stock at 15. Microbevel does the cutting and back bevel stock doesn't make much difference unless it has a 4/5mm thick s...

Vivi, Nice pics. Please forgive me but I don't understand what that helps. I honestly don't, so maybe you could tell me. If I should make a seperate thread outside of this thread just let me know. ;) Does that just make for less resistance with what you are cutting? How much different does it feel ...

UKPK thinned out just a tad

Just took my UKPK to 8-10 degrees inclusive judging by eye. http://i32.tinypic.com/14biznp.jpg http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6627/reprofiled2yw2.jpg http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2290/reprofiled3gx0.jpg Still working on it. The microbevel isn't so micro right now either, was trying to take...

For me knives are like wines. I have my favorites but different meals call for different wines. I'm similar to an extant. If I'm going skating all day or doing something else where I'll sweat a lot, I'll carry a Byrd instead of a 150$ Spyderco. Eventually I'll get a Salt for this. Usually carry my ...

I really liked the Stretch but two things kept me from holding on to it. I like the curve that knives like the UKPK, Military and Para have. It makes cutting more comfortable for me. Also, the Stretch just had a bit more blade than I tend to need. Other than that the quality of the knife really impr...

What's Cool Vs. What Works

A few months ago on bladeforums I made a post to the effect of "I love my UKPK, it's the best knife design I've ever used. In fact I like it so much that I don't buy knives anymore, because I can't find a design that looks like it will make a better EDC" Since making that post I've acquire...

My new BG42 Military will whittle hairs and push cut through a loaf of bread after a little stropping.

Realy... Do you use them all at once. I have not needed any "Task Specific" knife, I use one knife for all tasks. And it works just fine... Chopping, Cutting, Prying, Opening Boxes, Cutting Wire, Chopping Wood, Everything... ONE KNIFE does it ALL. Of coarse, I'm not using a Spyderco. Are ...

Only one knife is a failed approach when one realizes that Spyderco offers many designs that are more task specific. You can EDC an Endura for a year and do all your cutting, but a Manix will chop better, a Cricket would open packages and boxes better, a SE Harpy would work better for cutting rope e...

Thanks for performing the stab into a log and then whack it with a khukuri test. I was curious to see how that would pan out ;) You make it sound so scientific. :D A little update: The knife was stabbed in about an inch deep then I gave it an arm swing with the khukuri. Didn't swing especially hard...

Got My Mule (Photo Heavy)

Got a Mule in a trade recently. Going to need to get another for field carry since I like the pattern quite a bit for a smaller FB for the woods. This one I just wanted to beat around and test. http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/3712/breakxe7.th.jpg http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4685/tipendbm5....

That's how I grip it. Not enough material there for my middle two fingers to hold on to. Otherwise fantastic knife.

I just purchased a bunch of mid-sized folders. I've EDC'd a UKPK for a long time now and wanted to try some new knives. I thought I'd buy all the ones that looked the best to me, compare them, pick my favorite and sell the rest. Problem, is, I like them all for their own reasons. I like the Para bec...

Really the only change I'd like to see to the Dragonfly is add more handle where your ring and middle fingers grip. I love the size, design, etched scales etc. of my friends Dragonfly, but those two fingers don't have enough handle to hold on to for me. I wouldn't want any sort of Sabre grind on a k...

I'm having a difficult time choosing myself. Any new scale option I would want to increase functionality in some way, not be made strictly for aesthetic reasons.
