Re: Overall disappointed
I am not sure how any other brand of pocket clipped folder would be any better than a spyderco? I have used and carried Buck, Cold Steel, Kershaw, Benchmade and Spyderco knives since 1994. I have been a commercial fisherman, tugboat crewman, charter boat deckhand and captain, fisheries observer, ass...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?
I just picked up a used Swayback for a great price on Bladeforums and it was delivered today. It is my first high end spyderco (I am more of a user than collector) and i am very impressed. The tip broke and the previous owner sent it back to have it reground. There was quite a bit of steel removed a...

Police question
Does Spyderco mark Police models with Sal’s initials. This is a VG-10 SS CE Police but i have never seen the Sal icon on a Police in the past. Can anyone chime in and confirm this is a legit Spyderco manufactured knife?

Re: How did you get into Spyderco?
TL;DR 1-Walmart 2-Spyderco forum Walmart. I seriously did all my knife shopping at my local Walmart. They sell Buck. Laugh it up if you want (not you EvilD), but if it wasn’t for Walmart selling the Tenacious, I might not have discovered this rabbit hole. I bought it because it looked bada$$ in the...

Re: I'm going to EDC PE H1 until August
Enjoyable read Vivi. In 2005 or 06, whenever the H1 Salt series came out, I used a PE Atlantic for several years commercial lobstering. I found as well that a coarser grit with a lower angle increased the edge holding ability even when cutting media like sand impregnated poly rope. Most PE knives i ...

Re: How did you get into Spyderco?
I carried a PE black handle atlantic salt scuba diving and going boating and to the beach and also commercial fishing for several years.
I have been out of the Spyderco world for a while so it is interesting to hear everyone’s stories.

Re: Could you EDC only a Ladybug or Manbug?
I answered yes because I tried this in the past with an old AUS 6 Pride. I probably could do it again but i have bad luck with small knives as in I tend to lose them.

Re: Spyders For Work: What Specific Uses For Each Model?
JD- In the last week I have seen a Persistence or Tenacious (just saw the clip) in the pocket of a natural resource officer, an old black bladed Assist on a work boat during a movie shoot detail and a black bladed Endura on a harbor patrol officer. Well Pete1977 I can't tell you how great it is to ...

Re: Spyders For Work: What Specific Uses For Each Model?
JD- I still have that knife somewhere. It was extremely versatile. I used the serrated blade for heavy cutting and the plain blade for more fine work. I gave my dad a mini FRN Dyad around 2003 or 2004 but he lost it pretty soon after. In the 8 or so years since i was last here i would say my most us...

Re: How did you get into Spyderco?
FK I remember in the late 1980s, maybe 1987 or 88 that there was a guy at a boat show in Boston demonstrating a sharpening tool, which my dad bought. I’m not sure if it was Sal but I still have most of that Sharpmaker.

How did you get into Spyderco?
I first saw one in 1993 or ‘94. My father was a police detective and one day he brought home this kind of ugly knife with a molded pocket clip and a humpbacked, serrated blade with a hole in it. It was an Endura, probably with an AUS-8 blade. He loaned it to me my first day commercial fishing as it ...

Re: Spyders For Work: What Specific Uses For Each Model?
As a commercial fisherman and towboat deckhand i always went with SE- primarily a full size Byrd Rescue. The shallow serrations were the perfect combination of cutting ability and ease of field sharpening. I have used a SE Endura, PE Atlantic Salt, a full size Dyad, a SE Harpy and numerous Byrd fold...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?
Not in the mail anymore but a SS PE Police just arrived Friday. I got it used but in excellent condition and have some minor mods to make on it but it is the first spyderco I have bought in about a decade.

Re: Police Models
Hey Pete1977 I think I do remember you from the old days. I think I also remember you being a big fan of the older C-44 big Dyad model? I hope I don't have you confused with someone else. As far as the POLICE models go. The first generation of the G-10 handled POLICE models are still among my perso...

Re: Police Models
Well, not that i don’t want to buy a knew knife but i got home and played around with some carry options and came up with one that may work with my Police- i clipped it owb between my pants and belt. It is secure, comfortable, out of the way yet still easily accessible and i can draw and open it wit...

Re: Police Models
Thanks Vivi and Yablanowitz. The G-10 is more secure and faster to open- unfortunately the model I have (somewhere- i cant remember if i gave it away) only has one liner which prevents reversing the clip. I am most likely going to pick up a stainless Police, reverse it for left hand carry and file g...

Re: Police Models
Thanks Vivi I did not know the stainless police was still in production. I have been carrying my knife on my offside (mainly due to what i carry for work occupying much of my right side and for the option of weapon retention.) and can open my Police with practice but it is not easy. I have or had a ...
