Re: Time for some different Byrd designs.

Another design I would love to see Sal and Eric do in the abuse line is a 3.25 to 3.75 inch Tanto. Come on guys and gals. Shoot some ideas along. I agree completely. Please make a Byrd with thick 3.0 mm tanto blade both serrated and combo edge and plain blade. And in that 3 to 4 inch blade length r...

Seems odd but so far these programs seem to just reuse Wikipedia type info.

Re: hello everyone!

Welcome! This is a great forum. I am very interested in Italian culture and knives. Most people think of spring driven so called switch blades from Italy but the Italian knife makers produce lockblade and fixed blades of great quality.

History of FRN for Spyderco?

Hello friends! I missed you all. Question. When were the earliest Spyderco knives made with Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon handles and in general when was FRN and that class of material used for knife grips? My understanding is that our greatly missed friend Walter Blackie Collins pioneered injection m...

Re: Signed up for ChatGPT, GPT-4

I have some questions about this: 1 Can these systems use AI patterns to find new materials and technologies that humans have not found? Example: Can you ask Chat GPT to find new knife shapes, designs, and materials for blades and handles that can revolutionize knife production, or not likely since ...

"Plassteel" process makes Super Elastic and Super Strong Steel: for Knives, too?

Attention Larrin and Doc and others here who are interested in new knife steel: Read this news and tell me if this has possible applications to knife/blade steel? https://www.asminternational.org/smst/newswire/-/journal_content/56/10180/33464294/NEWS/ https://cordis.europa.eu/article/id/223818-hardy...

Michael and others: Do you think this is true? The nanotechnology engineers claim that eventually advanced molecular control of matter will lead to things like complete weather control so people can make the world safe and secure when it comes to weather changes, such as making inexpensive transpare...

Re: Please remove MAP pricing forever!

I hope this doesn't sound ignorant but can you all please give me a basic summary again of what MAP is? Is my understanding correct, that it sets a rule that any official retailer or knife seller whom works with and purchases their knives from Spyderco for resale to the public must agree to a minimu...

Drop Point vs Clip Point: Strength and Durability issues ?

Hey all, how are you friends? Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays to you all. I have a question in regards to the relative strengths and durabilities of clip point knife blades vs drop point knife blades. Based on your personal experiences and your knowledge of metall...

Strongest Known Blade Lock for Spyderco Knives?

Out of every blade-lock ever used on all known Spyderco folders, which one is truly the strongest and closest to transforming the opened knife into a fixed blade knife as far as safety goes? I have heard it would be the Puzzle Lock by Mr. Bram Frank. Bram is, as many of you may know, the designer of...

Super Tough Cobalt Alloy: Knife worthy?

Hello to all the metallurgical experts on here such as Larrin and other folks: What do you make of this ultra tough cobalt chromium alloy? Would it be hard enough for knife blade use? https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abp8070 "Exceptional fracture toughness of CrCoNi-based medium- and...

Re: Unusual, and/or Paranormal Events

I don't like to watch the videos of it because it seems very eerie, but I saw some recent news article that claims a family had a "possessed doll" and they recorded it moving and climbing out of it's toy basket or something under it's own power.

Re: New Byrd knife with a hard to open button

Dear LynneV: Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. If you have arthritis, you might be better served with a lock mechanism that requires less strength to operate. Most byrd knives are back locks, which have strong springs. You might find a linerlock--like the Raven--easier to operate. Stay safe, Mike Hell...
