Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
Some amazing deals on these. I had to grab a Rockjumper at $60. That’s a ton of knife for the money

Re: upgraded steels for less popular models
I’ve done a 180 on blade steels. For a long time I was almost exclusively concerned with sampling new and interesting steels. I’ve used enough of them to know that for me it doesn’t matter. I like to whittle and carve. Steels that don’t hold an edge very long are typically easy to strop or sharpen b...

Re: Price increases 2023?
It's simple economics folks... cost of production goes up (supplies, raw materials, transport, labor, etc.), especially with very high levels of inflation, and that cost ultimately gets passed to the consumer otherwise there is no viable business. It's happening with everything and people should ex...

Re: Price increases 2023?
Given how close many Spyderco knives are edging toward custom and semi-custom prices, slow sells could change the entire dynamic. That crazy low price on the teal S30V Delica could become more common if dealers are sitting on too much inventory. From talking with a few people somewhat close to the ...

Re: Stretch 2 XL in grey G10 and CruWear steel!
If it were a normal sized Stretch I would be in the “must buy” group. However, at the price they are charging, I would expect perfect fit and finish, and very few of my Seki models display this. I just don’t understand how G10 from Japan is so much more expensive. It’s a great looking knife, but jus...

Re: Blade HQ Delica M4 exclusive
For my own preferences, I have decided the Delica should either have a finger choil, or the ricasso should be reduced. It kind of sits in no mans land as it is. Oddly, I don’t feel the same about the Endura or Endela, but they do have slightly different ergonomics as the handle meets the blade.

I haven’t read this entire thread, but backlocks are by far my favorite with liner locks coming in second.

Re: Spyderco 2022 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming
If the Knife Joker Lil’ Native was a backlock I would be all over it! Not to be a buzzkill, but the Lil’ Native should ONLY come in a backlock. There, I said it.

Re: 2023 price increases?
I think a focus on more S35VN models out of China would be a good move given the rising costs. Those knives are excellent values and very competitive with others in the range. A $200 Spyderco has a lot of price competition with other makers for quality, fit and finish that a $100 Chinese Spyderco do...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Nope, set the edge at 15 withh diamonds, then refine at 20 with the ceramics. The whole process only took about five minutes. polishing full bevels is a waste of time IMO, only the apex needs polished for good push cutting. That’s my general strategy for all edge maintenance. I do go ahead and give...

Re: BladeHQ Exclusive Lum Tanto
I would love see more pics of this model. You never really know if it is a one out or larger problem really. Lots of excitement for a new model, then ....... no pics. Hard to judge scope of the issue. I'm still very pleased from the Polestar from the maker in China. I know Sal has mentioned in the ...

Re: BladeHQ Exclusive Lum Tanto
$300 knives are supposed to be exemplars of what a company can do. No excuses. i would say the same for $200 knives. and even $100 knives shouldn't have fit and finish problems. but knives at any price point shouldn't have qc problems. i bet no one has ever bought a tenacious from a walmart that lo...

Re: Hey Sal - any news on the Maxamet Military?
I only own a knife in Maxamet because the Sage 1 can’t be had in any other steel. I honestly can’t stand Maxamet. I’d rather sharpen a knife much more frequently and actually enjoy the process. What are you sharpening with? Not trying to talk you into liking it (it's not my favorite either) but I w...

Re: What grit finish for a hunting/fishing knife?
For skinning/processing game I would go 600 to 800. For cleaning fish I would go from 1200 all the way to 2000 with my own preference being at 1200.
