Re: If laws and public perception were no issue, would you carry a different knife?
Yes, if I weren't restricted to 3.5" I think a LW Cruwear Stretch 2 XL would be my daily. Since the XL is too long, I make due with a PM2.

Re: Sharpmaker Elite Edition
For me, an alternate base with 17.5 and 12.5 settings would do. I know of the 3D-printable adapters, but I do like the original base concept. This is kinda what I'd like. My only real issue with the Sharpkeeper, is that my rods fit loosely. I try to apply the same force on the downstrokes but if I ...

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!
Just sent a follow-up email to Dack because the website shows the Stretch 2XL Salt SE back in stock. Conveniently, two days after they wanted to cancel my order due to "an inventory discrepancy." Not accusing Dack of anything, not at this point anyway, but we'll have to see how they respo...

Re: Experiences with hawkbills?
I've been a devout Spyderco Hawkbill fan for a long time ( 20 years plus). I've found that using a medium sized, fully serrated Hawkbill like the Harpy model makes a great companion blade to work along side a favorite plain edged EDC blade. One brother mentions "gardening". And yes a full...

Re: Experiences with hawkbills?
The Tasman is one of my favorites, especially in black. But to be honest, I really like the Byrd HB. Had to pick up one of them too! Picking up the Byrd Hawkbill was a good decision. If you don't really need the extra corrosion resistance and at a third of the cost of the Tasman that's a win. Actua...

Re: Experiences with hawkbills?
A timely reup for this thread. I just happened to be in the SFO Monday and picked up another DF2 HB in H2. I wanted to pick up the LB HB as well but HAD to have the Sub-Hilt they had on hand. The Tasman is one of my favorites, especially in black. But to be honest, I really like the Byrd HB. Had to ...

Re: Looking for thoughts on Caly 3.5 vs. GB2
Went to the SFO Monday and meant to ask to handle the GB2. Say it displayed next to the Caly 3.5. But, before I could ask to see it, I spied a Sub-Hilt and HAD to have it. Totally forgot to ask to handle the GB2. I already have a Caly 3.5, love it, but the GB2 clearly scratches a different itch. My ...

Re: S30V or SPY27
SPY27 is slightly tougher and S30V has slightly more edge retention. Neither should be difficult to sharpen but SPY27 will be easier. However, if you are going to get a Native 5 in SPY27, why not get a Native 5 Salt in Magnacut instead? Just as easy to sharpen but much tougher. Wrong answer, get bo...

Re: S30V or SPY27
The SPY27 would be my pick. Having several S30V knives I find the SPY27 a better steel to sharpen. Of the two, I also find that Spy27 is easier for me to sharpen. Is there really much a difference? Beyond the relative ease of sharpening, none I can detect. I'm not getting rid of any of my S30V kniv...

Re: If laws and public perception were no issue, would you carry a different knife?
I recently traded a forum member here for a 5.5" bladed pocket knife. I've found that for a lot of things I use a pocket knife for, this size works better than the 3.5-4" blades I'd often carry instead. One of the reasons he traded it was being unable to carry it legally. So it got me thi...

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing
My sample group of 8CR consists of 3 Kershaws. I was impressed with none of them. Edge holding was less than my VG10 Spydercos or 154CM Benchmades. Sharpening them was easy enough, but occasionally they seemed to develop a burr that I'd have to get past to get a good edge. I gave 2 away & held ...

Re: I don't give a #@$! about stainless
Having a stainless steel that is the ballpark equivalent of M4/4V is pretty awesome if you ask me... but that's just, like, my opinion. I love what the crazy cool tool steels like 15V and K390 do, but I also love the worry free performance of a stainless steel like MagnaCut for certain situations. ...

Re: The Delica Wharncliffe is the greatest work knife ever made.
Hmm, I think the best bang for the buck work knife is the Harrier 2 SE Wharnie.
Here's a Meadowlark next to a Delica. The Harrier 2 is just a tad larger but with a much larger blade.

Re: Time for some different Byrd designs.
Anything new would be welcome from design to blade steel. The product lineup is so limited that it needs new blood to spark up this forum. So sad that the Byrd Wharnies went away. Thought they were brilliant. An upgrade in the Chinese steels used would be big news. A Byrd version of the Astute woul...

Re: Cara Cara 2
Yes, big difference in size. The Harrier 2 has an Endela sized blade in a handle not much larger than a Delica. The Cara- Cara is considerably larger in both respects.
