Re: Thinnest Spyderco model
Then Chaparral is thinner than the Dragonfly and I have both and am a huge Dragonfly fan. However I’ve found that even the much thicker Native 5 is very slicey. It’s the blade geometry and how they grind the edge thin. That’s why I am a Spyderco fan or one of the main reasons at least. But the Chapa ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
I own several DFs and a LN with compression lock. The LN seems to be a sturdier knife, but I find that the compression lock system is an ergonomic aberration that doesn't make it very secure to close. I think the main reason for carrying a sub-compact knife is weight. In this respect, the DF is ...

Re: What was your first Spyderco
About 37 years ago I found my first Spyderco, the stainless CoPilot I carried and used for years while doing aerial mapping photography all over the west including 119 missions in Mexico. It is pictured here next to my current carry, the K390 Dragonfly I’ve been carrying exclusively for more than a y ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
That’s a slick lightweight kit for moving through the urban landscape, a device for communication, navigation, reference and photography with some currency and a very capable blade that will draw no attention. I like it. Every place I go takes Apple Pay so I haven’t had to carry actual cash for yea ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
Bolster that’s a good little initial review. It is kind of shocking how such a small folder can perform so well. The K390 is off the charts amazing.

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
Are those kits for FRN and Salt models? yes. Flytanium makes one and there's one for sale on ebay. I have both. They both work. The ebay one was designed to be used without washers, but includes them and they do work. The Flytanium one is more expensive and has more parts. They both work. Thank you ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
One does have to give thought to what might be needed versus what is necessary every day. It hardly ever rains here but... Well whaddya know, a fellow SW desert rat...though I'm mostly on the Calif side of the Colorado River, but sometimes east of it. I'll keep an eye out for a guy carrying a D'fly ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
Another thing I do with my knife when hiking is casual foraging for informative purposes. I like to know and understand the 400 square miles of southwestern wilderness that I can walk to from home as good as I can after hiking the two mountain ranges, peaks and canyons that start in the saguaros and ...

Re: Fixing Lock Rock in Seki FRN lockbacks
I have two copies of the Dragonfly in K390. One has a little rock to it and the trademark side of the blade isn’t finished as good as the signature side. My second copy doesn’t have any but an almost imperceptible rock, almost not there and both sides of the blade are equally finished. They are both ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
I understand different hand sizes and perspectives but to help me understand more what do you normally use a blade for when hiking? Thanks if I recall correctly and correct me if I’m wrong, you are doing this in the Austrian mountains and forests which is going to be different from the canyons and m ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
I can see that the Dfly must be an amazing ultralight option.. but honestly, your wording "those who value ultralight weight and want a real knife" rather brings the Salt 2 ffg to my mind. Just me of course , but the Dfly would be just too small to be a "real knife" for what I use a blade for when ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
It would be good if we could include our usage scenarios as that would illuminate the sense that a choice makes. Some here really get the Dragonfly. It is the invisible knife that one never notices in pocket but will greatly outperform its size. This is highly sought in the hiking community ...

Re: Dragonfly vs. Lil' Native
“ I grab the Dragonfly when I need an ultralight folding scalpel” That’s the freaking truth. A Dragonfly in K390 is surreal in capabilities never mind the size. The ergonomics are well thought out. My little finger wraps the small flat pulling the handle into my palm, fitting perfectly. In the rever ...

Re: Question about lanyard holes.........
I don’t use them because lanyards take on moisture, food debris and what have you with a serious user making it harder to clean but I’m glad they include the lanyard hole. If one does want to remove the clip for any reason it is a good attachment point to keep the knife secure in various situations. ...

Re: Is there a quintessential Spyderco?
The Delica suggestions are spot on. It is the quentissial medium pocket knife. Consider the steel and grab K390 if you can find it if you aren’t worried about a bit of patina and know how to take care of it. It’s a tough little knife but if you desire a bit tougher the Native will do it with just a b ...

Re: Spyderco spotted on Survivor!
Nope, in a podcast he confirmed that he found the shirts in some shop early in the show and bought a bunch and still wears them. Perhaps he does have a couple others. So what. They don’t script the show and do one take and one take only. That’s always been their mindset from day one. I’ll take his wo ...

Re: Spyderco spotted on Survivor!
It's unlikely that the prettyboy host with is perfect wardrobe, perfect lighting, and perfect camera angles would walk onto the set with his pockets bulging with personal belongings. I suspect the knife came from the prop master, or a gaffer who was sitting around sipping coffee. That’s one of the s ...
